Executive Summary

Staff recommends updating the City’s Full-Time Classification and Compensation Schedule to reflect two changes:

•                     Adding the Communication Specialist classification to the full-time schedule

•                     Updating the title of IT Help Desk Technician to IT Support Technician II

The Communication Specialist classification currently exists on the City’s part-time schedule. No changes are proposed to the job description or salary range.

The IT classification title update better reflects the scope and level of work being performed. There is no change to compensation associated with the title update.

Discussion

The Communication Specialist classification currently exists within the City’s part-time classification structure. Based on operational needs, staff recommends adding this classification to the Full-Time Classification and Compensation Schedule.

The duties, qualifications, and salary range remain unchanged. The position will be assigned to Grade 610, consistent with the existing compensation structure. Adding the classification to the full-time schedule provides flexibility to utilize the role on a full-time basis as needed.

Staff also recommends updating the classification title from IT Help Desk Technician to IT Support Technician II. This change better aligns the title with current industry terminology and the level of technical responsibilities associated with the role.

There is no change to the job duties, salary range, or compensation structure. This is a title update only.

Fiscal Impact

Funding for six months of a Customer Experience Navigator position was included in the current fiscal year budget and is proposed to be replaced with the Communication Specialist position. Any costs for the remainder of the fiscal year will be covered through existing appropriations within the Communications budget.

The IT title update has no fiscal impact.
