Introduction
The Federal Government earmarked Senior Mini-Grant Program funds to SANDAG to allocate throughout San Diego County for the purposes of supporting mobility and transit options for senior  residents who reside within the city limits of San Marcos . SANDAG Senior Mini-Grant funds would be used to provide taxi vouchers to residents aged 60 and over through the San Marcos Senior Center.  This is a competitive grant opportunity and the San Marcos application will be competing against those submitted by other San Diego County jurisdictions.
Discussion
The vouchers have a cash value and can be used by seniors for taxi trips to medical appointments and short trips throughout San Marcos.  Funding would allow the Senior Center to continue to provide this program through 2015.  The SANDAG Senior Mini-Grant Program application seeks $35,000 in grant funds and, if awarded, that amount will be matched 100% by the City of San Marcos General Fund budget to provide for 4,000 vouchers for Fiscal Year 2015-2016. Application for these SANDAG mini-grant funds is allowed every other year.

Separate from the grant program, the approved Fiscal Year 2014-15 budget includes $35,000 to provide 2,000 taxi vouchers.

Fiscal Impact
The requested Senior Mini-Grant Program funds would be awarded for next fiscal year. Should the City be awarded the grant, the grant funds along with the City's match would be reflected in the Fiscal Year 2015-2016 budget.
