The Parks & Recreation Commission met on October 16th, 2024, and unanimously approved the updated Naming of Municipal Facilities Policy via a 6-0 vote, Commissioner Robles was absent from the meeting. Staff recommends that the City Council approve the proposed updates to the policy as presented.

Executive Summary
Resolution No. 90-3392 established a naming policy outlining the process by which name applications may be submitted to the Parks & Recreation Commission for review and forwarded to the City Council for final approval. Upon the recommendation of the Parks & Recreation Commission, staff and the City Attorney's Office reviewed and updated the existing policy to provide a more structured, transparent, and consistent decision-making process for naming municipal facilities. The proposed resolution would formally adopt these changes.
Discussion
During the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting held on April 20, 2022, the Commission discussed the need to update the existing facility naming policy. In September 2023, the policy was submitted for review by the City Attorney's Office. At the October 16, 2024, Parks & Recreation Commission meeting, the updated policy, including recommended changes from the City Manager and the City Attorney's Office, was submitted for review. The Commission approved the policy for recommendation to the City Council, which included updating the Commission name to reflect its new designation as the "Parks & Recreation Commission."
