Executive Summary
Senate Bill 1 Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1), dedicated new funds to cities and counties for basic road maintenance, rehabilitation and critical safety projects on the local streets and roads systems, known as Roadway Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (RMRA) funds.
In order to be eligible to receive an apportionment of RMRA funds, the City must submit an annual list of proposed projects through an adopted resolution to the California Transportation Commission (CTC). The City developed an SB 1 project list to ensure revenues are being used on the most high-priority and cost-effective projects that also meet the communities priorities for transportation investment.
Staff has identified an additional potential project that is consistent with the SB 1 funding objectives and guidelines and is seeking Council approval to submit the proposed project to the CTC for consideration of an apportionment of the RMRA funds.
Discussion
SB 1 dedicates approximately $1.5 billion per year in new formula revenues apportioned by the State Controller to cities and counties for basic road maintenance, rehabilitation and critical safety projects on the local streets and roads system.
