The Department of Homeland Security provides funds through the UASI grant program to cities and counties to enhance regional preparedness and capabilities in designated high-threat, high-density areas. The grant is administered regionally by the City of San Diego Department of Homeland Security. The City of San Marcos' allocation for FY 24 UASI is $45,804.

Discussion
The United States Department of Homeland Security, through the California Office of Emergency Services, is providing $45,804 in FY 24 UASI funding to address the unique planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercise needs of high-threat, high-density urban areas, and assist in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism. The UASI grant program is regionally administered by the City of San Diego Department of Homeland Security and funds awarded to the City of San Marcos are managed by the San Marcos Fire Department.

Grant funds are allocated based on risk, which has resulted in an allocation of $45,804 for the City of San Marcos. Per the terms and conditions of the UASI grant, the city is not required to provide in-kind matching funds.
