Introduction
The 2014 Chip Seal Project is part of the City's annual pavement maintenance and rehabilitation program. The application of a rubberized emulsion chip seal surface treatment is a preventative maintenance activity on asphalt pavements that are in fair/good condition. In combination with other preventative maintenance strategies, such as slurry seals, this surface treatment is estimated to extend the pavement life approximately 5-7 years. The work was constructed on various collector and residential roadways within the City of San Marcos (see attachment Appendix A for a complete list of streets).

Discussion
The 2014 Chip Seal Project has been completed to a combined 1,223,003 square feet of roadways in accordance within the contract specifications. The roadways in the Coronado Hills development that include Washingtonia Dr, Cycad Dr and Phoenix Way were removed from the list of streets to be sealed to allow for a further assessment of the roadway conditions as a result of the Coco's fire and will be included in the following year's pavement maintenance and rehabilitation program.
