Executive Summary

The Sunset Park & Mission Sports Park Synthetic Turf Replacement project (Project) was established to replace synthetic turf at sites where turf has reached the end of its useful life.  Replacement of synthetic turf at Sunset Park was completed in Fiscal Year 2019-2020.  Completion of the synthetic turf replacement at Mission Sports Park requires additional funds.

Discussion

Replacement of the synthetic turf at Mission Sports Park is the second phase of the Project.  Estimates received to complete this phase of work came back higher than anticipated; therefore, additional funds are needed.  The appropriation of additional funds and budget increase will allow for the completion of the synthetic turf replacement at Mission Sports Park.

San Marcos Youth Baseball (SMYB) provided the additional funds for the Project.  The Memorandum of Understanding between the City and SMYB, allows SMYB to provide funds towards specific sport-related projects.  SMYB contributed $42,937 in additional funding for the Project. Staff is seeking Council approval to increase the project budget and appropriate $42,937 of additional funds.

Environmental Review

There are no environmental impacts related to this project.

Fiscal Impact

The Project is budgeted in the approved Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Capital Improvement Projects Budget for $281,250 and funded with General Fund (100) and Citywide 98-02 (205) funds.  The donation from SMYB increases the overall project budget to $324,187.

The details of the project budget are shown in Attachment 1.
